MY STORY
When Karen founded Four Paw Adventures her goal was to provide owners the services needed for their pets from a trustworthy, knowledgeable, experienced and loving person. As an animal lover and pet owner herself she knows first hand how difficult it is to find someone to care for your pets the way you would. Karen is dedicated to alleviating your worry and stress by providing the nuturing, compassionate and high quality care your pet deserves when you can't be there.

As a former employee of the BCSPCA for over 7 years, Karen has extensive experience working with all types of animals, big and small. As an animal lover, Karen took all the programs offered through the BCSPCA to gain as much knowledge as possible to help the animals. The two courses that helped the most were the BCSPCA Accredited DTA IV Dog Assessor Course and the BCSPCA CatSense Course in which she learned all about the body language of dogs and cats in order to better understand what each animal needed. While working with the BCSPCA she found her greatest passion was working with the dogs (although she loved caring for all the animals). This passion lead her to a positive reinforcement dog training apprenticeship program. Karen took the program to gain more knowledge about dogs and how they learn to strengthen her ability to help shelter dogs. It didn't take long before Karen felt the need to leave the BCSPCA to help provide owners with services to help stop the relinquishment of animals to the shelters.
To further her knowledge with all things animals, Karen has taken the Veterinary Assistant Program and worked at a specialty hospital along side board certified veterinarians and other animal professionals. Her 2 years there gave her the skills needed to be perceptive and attuned to the medical needs of an animal, how to follow veterinarian instructions on administering medications, and trained to observe changes in an animals behaviour, physical condition, and abnormal potty habits along with their drinking and eating habits.
Beyond Karen's experience and credentials, she views each animal as an individual, taking the time to get to know and understand their unique needs, personality and quirks. She is especially drawn to those special need animals that no one else wants to take on be it for medical or behavioural. Being trusted to care for someone else's pet is a privilege and one that is never taken lightly.
